Exercise Effective Self Governance

  • Partner with administration to support and implement the district strategic plan.
  • Adhere to board roles and expectations for stakeholder engagement.
  • Abide by majority decisions while retaining the right to seek changes.
  • Encourage the expression of free speech
  • Consistently and review and revise board policy as necessary.
  • Conduct new board member orientation.
  • Conduct annual board evaluations.

 

Act as dedicated agents of the stakeholders of the Edinburg Community. Represent Edinburg Schools and Community with dignity and respect in all aspects and functions as board members.

  • Represent stakeholders honestly and equally.
  • Be active in schools and community events.
  • Respectfully listen to those who communicate with the board.
  • Avoid conflict and the appearance of impropriety.
  • Take no private action that may compromise the board or the office of school board member.
  • Strive for positive working relationships with administration and stakeholders alike
  • Conduct annual board evaluations.
  • Be accessible to the community.
  • Regularly attend district events.
  • Practice the skill of actively listening.
  • Avoid being an individual problem solver; remember the board makes decisions as a unit.

 

Direct district efforts to efficiently and effectively balance revenues, expenditures and student needs.

  • Be an active participant in the review of district finances.
  • Review recommendations by administration with concern for the financial and academic growth of the district.
  • Study district finances and engage administration in their practices.
  • Consider recommendations by the administration and Finance Committee
  • Approval of a balanced budget for 2018-19
